50 Shades of Green to Salzburg

Austria. Honestly, the most beautiful scenic drive I have ever been on. The hills of Austria are magnificent and the sea of green that fades off into the distant horizon.. Beautiful. Picturesque. And to think that I almost did not go on this trip. It was by far, my favorite weekend of this semester. If I ever learn German, I will retire here. I would at least like a villa in Austria or Switzerland though.
When we arrived in Salzburg, I knew immediately what I wanted to do: walk to the fortress. We had a couple of hours to spare before dinner so I set off to my destination. I stopped in the Mirabell Gardens, walked over the bridge and along the river, through the streets and took the tram up to the fortress. The views, were spectacular. I wish we could have waited to watch the sunset but we were limited on time.
The next day, we went on The Sound of Music Tour. I have seen the film multiple times and I do enjoy it, but I am not a fanatic as others on the trip were. I mostly did the tour to travel to the neighboring towns. We did, however, have to sing on the bus. But I cheated and lip-synced. The tour took us to the house where the boat scene was shot, the Hellbrunn Palace with the gazebo, and Mondsee where the cathedral is located. In Mondsee, we had the chance to grab a bite to eat. I ordered chicken noodle soup which was delicious, and an apple strudel. The apple strudel was heaven. The BEST I have ever had. As soon as I finished it, I wanted another one but I was limited on cash. The taste lingered in my mouth and on my taste buds long after it was done. And the vanilla ice cream that accompanied the strudel was just as wonderful.
Salzburg and the scenic routes were definitely the highlight of the trip. I would love to visit Austria once again and stay longer. I highly suggest that you visit if you ever get the chance. You will not be disappointed.
